Melinda was photographed as part of the Erotic Dancer series for Penthouse. She was just 18 when the photographs were made, but she had an even younger appearance. As always, we were sure to get the proper releases, i.d., and proof of age, but I remember getting two calls from the people at Penthouse in new York after I submitted the proofs. The first call came from the art director, a woman, who asked the obvious question: "Are you sure...?" I assured her I was. I knew from number of sources that Melinda was of legal age - and I knew from our photo session that she was quite aware of and interested in what she was doing. A second call came the next day from the legal department. The chief lawyer for Penthouse asked the same question: "Are you sure...?" He told me they were served with lawsuits several times each month and he didn't need another one. In any case, the paperwork was all in order and they published the spread later that year, and until my work with Natalie was published, Melinda was probably my most popular model. (The latest book, 20th Century Studio Nudes, uses one of her photos on the cover) We're now (2003) beginning to scan all the decent negs and replace all the old scans from the Melinda session. Most of the images shown in the earlier html pages will be showing up shortly in the Frames gallery as higher resolution displays. There will be a much bigger selection to view when we're finished with these, as well as some of the detail crops that I've been doing lately.
